SEO Review of VA-Home-LoansOnline.com

Today is part 2 of our blog series called "Joomla SEO Site Review".

Every week we’re going to look at a new Joomla site and address several questions the site owner wants answering about their site’s SEO. We’ll discuss them on the blog and then open things up for other people to give their feedback as well.

Hopefully it will raise some topics that will be useful to lots of people, not just the site owner. If you’re interested in having your site featured, feel free to contact us with your site’s URL and 4/5 questions you’d like answered.

Bank of America Launches BOFA.mobi

BOA.mobi screenshotI’ve always been pretty cynical about the 2006 launch of .mobi.

My strategy for domain investing has long been “.com and the main extensions of countries you know well”. I did buy half-a-dozen .mobi domains when they came out but have remained a pessimist since then. It seemed like a textbook example of pump-and-dump, with people hoping to sell keyword domains for a high price, before the inevitable collapse.

Well, I’m prepared to admit for the first time that .mobi may actually have a chance. When I logged into to my Bank of America account this morning I saw a big advertisement for their online banking. The domain name was bofa.mobi. No alternatives. No use of bofa.com/mobi or mobi.bofa.com

It is possible that Bank of America may remain lonely in their use of .mobi and their experiment with the extension may not last long, but equally it is undeniably true that the outlook for .mobi is much brighter than it was yesterday.

SEF Advance Update and a 6th SEF URL Extension

A quick update to where things stand in our review of SEO Extensions for Joomla:

  • SEF Advance has recently been updated to 5.0. Emir has made a lot of major and minor improvements so we’ve updated our review of the component accordingly.
  • Although I thought I’d reviewed all the SEF URL extensions, Hummerbie was kind enough to point out that there’s actually another forgotten SEF URL component called Remosef. That makes six in total. Look for a review of that next week.
  • Kanga Internet have created a version of Artio SEF that works fine, but doesn’t include the hidden metadata advertising of the original.
  • I’m busy creating one page that ties together all our Joomla SEO Extension reviews and links to all the components in one easy-to-use and easy-to-navigate list. Its available from the right-hand menu under Joomla SEO Tools. If we’ve missed any, feel free to let drop a quick note in the comments to this thread.
