Drupal Founder Earns $7 Million in VC Funding

AcquiaFinally it looks like we may have an answer to the question I posed last year: can Joomla or Drupal produce a RedHat?

Drupal’s founder Dries Buytaert has launched a new company called Acquia that has picked up $7 million in venture capital funding. (Apparently the new name is meant to refer to “aqua” and Drupal’s original meaning of “drop of water”).

Happy Holidays and a Great 2008 to All!

Xmas DecorationMany, many thanks for all your support, help, comments, emails and friendship during 2007.

I wanted to give you all a quick heads up about Alledia.com over the holidays …

As a ex-pat living in the United States, I’m returning to England for Christmas and will be there from December 24th until January 7th.

I’ll be traveling with my laptop and will be online every day but it won’t quite be the same as working full-time:

.

  • If you’re an SEO Club member, you’ll still be able to get Site Reviews and answers to all your SEO questions within 24 hours … just not the 1 or 2 hours which is possible currently.
  • If you’re a blog reader, I have one or two articles stored up but posting over the holiday will be light compared to our normal 5-times-a-week schedule
  • If you’re in Hampshire and North Yorkshire over the next couple of weeksdrop me a line and I’d love to meet up with some Joomla people.
  • If you’re reading this … thanks again for your support in 2007 and have a great holiday season!

  • "Hey, my website’s in Chinese now … thats a billion new customers!"

However, this is a clear case where easy is not best.

Knol.com Another Joomla Site in the News

There’s been a lot of hype this week about Google’s new Knol project that people have been comparing to Wikipedia, and there’s a Joomla connection…

Who are the owners of Knol.com?

Knol.comIts a Dutch vacuum cleaner company who have been in business since 1969. They have a Joomla website using Virtuemart and a Rockettheme template. Apparently it crashed in the aftermath of the announcement, but its back online now and the owner Hilco Knol says he’s not selling:

"Till now have google don’t take contact with us we are positif suprised for using the name KNOL because it is my own name.

We want to launch our own products what you can see on our knol.com Internet site.

For the rest we see whats happening."
