Read More on Your Joomla Frontpage

This is a guest post from Tom Maiaroto of ExpandTheRoom. In this post he explains how to set the "Read More" on your Joomla frontpage to appear after a certain number of characters. This is useful to keep a standard appearance for your articles when you have a large number of people submitting content.

Controversial Joomla Blog PostsIn the last few days a particularly controversial blog post has made some people in the Joomla world angry. On the OpenJason.com blog, there was an article reviewing various Joomla template clubs. It made comments about some template designers that included phrases such as:

  • “Piss poor quality”
  • “If I wanted to get kicked in the nuts, I’d go to these guys”
  • “I can’t even muster up a .5 rating for these idiots. The templates suck”

Amazon Experimenting with Dropdown Boxes

Paul Krug’s “Don’t Make Me Think” is a classic guide to designing easy-to-use websites. In the book he makes a pretty compelling case for using tabs instead of dropdowns. His prime example is Amazon.com who lead the way in successfully using tabs.

Therefore, I got a big surprise today when I saw that even they’re are using dropdowns and with a really interesting twist …. dropdown menus with boxes instead of an organized list of links.
