Lincoln Center and NASA Both Run Joomla

Lincoln CenterLast week I was up in New York and Washington for Joomla training classes and was fortunate to meet a lot of great people using Joomla in high-profile and interesting ways.

In New York we had a student from the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The Lincoln Center is a huge group of buildings in downtown New York that host a dozen of the city’s highest profile arts groups including the Metropolitan Opera, Juilliard School, New York City Ballet and New York City Opera. Their main website at LincolnCenter.org runs Joomla.

Migrating to Joomla 1.5

Dirty SocksHopefully you noticed … we finally migrated this site to Joomla 1.5.

It took two months of planning and then two weeks of solid work to do the migration. Why so long? The Joomla core team have done their job but third-party developers are terrible at explaining how to move their extensions from Joomla 1.0 to 1.5. Even those that bothered to write instructions still hide them as if it was their dirty socks.

BP Uses Joomla for Energy Biosciences Institute

EBI-LogoThe EBI is a partnership between Britsh Petroleum (although it always goes by BP in the United States) plus a group of leading universities that includes the University of California, Berkeley; the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; and the University of Illinois.

The Speakers

All events have their own flavor. The CMS Expos are very heavily weighted towards commercial developers. In alphabetical order, you’ll find many if not most of the core team and other project leads:

The Power of Twitter and User Feedback

Joomla SurveyWow, I’ve finally realised how much Twitter is taking over. This morning’s post on the “Top Ten Things To Explain To Joomla Learners” created a lot of comments and feedback, but it was all on Twitter. Actually leaving a comment on the post seems suddenly to be out-of-date. With this trend, it can’t be long before Tweetbacks start appearing on Joomla as well as WordPress.
