For those of you that haven’t read it yet, there’s a fascinating post over on the Joomla forums, that touches on many crucial questions for the project.
The thread started innocuously when one member posted a “Things I don’t like about Joomla” list. In trying to answer them, lead developer Johan Jansseens mentioned that, “Encryption of Joomla! extensions is a violation of the GPL”. This generated more questions than it answered, because many Joomla components are encrypted and thus potentially violating the Joomla! license.

As today is Valentines Day I wanted to send love out to some of the excellent Joomla bloggers giving back to the community with news, tutorials, advice and opinions.
Below is a list of Joomla blogs, all of which are worth subscribing to. The criteria for inclusion is that they focus primarily on Joomla, are largely informative rather than commercial, and that they are updated at least one a week on average. I believe those three are important factors in keeping a blog fresh and informative.
Most but not all of these are available together in one place – the excellent JoomlaFeed.com.
If I’ve missed any other blogs that meet the criteria – let me know and I’ll add them to the list.
Here it is, Ladies and Gentlemen… Joomla 1.5 (in Beta form at least).
You can read the official posting here: http://www.joomla.org/content/view/2088/74/
The long and the short of it is that 1.5 is a developer-friendly leap forward from the older framework. Non-coders won’t see a huge difference in how Joomla operates until developers start putting forward their new components. Then the potential of the new software will hopefully become apparent.
This is a crucial release for Joomla that will go a very long way to deciding whether it continues its current, impressive momentum:
